VDA Class of 1999

Since I graduated from the original VDA back in 1999, I went on to earn a journalism degree at New York University and worked in book publishing in Manhattan. After several years, I decided to pursue the dream I've had since I was 12 years old: to become a writer.  I discovered my own love of reading thanks to Lisa's enthusiasm for literature and her ability to help her students find deep meaning and joy in great books. I knew I wanted to replicate that experience for my own readers, so I set out to write a novel. Today, a decade later, I'm proud to share that I've had three books published and am working on a fourth. I'm also a freelance journalist who writes on health and medicine; my articles have appeared in The New York Times, Newsweek, Popular Mechanics, Cosmo, and other outlets. VanDamme Academy's emphasis on teaching writing played a significant role in making my career possible.
